Ulster Nationalist Party
The Ulster Nationalist Party or UNP (Irish: Ulster Páirtí Náisiúnach)[1] is the continuation of the Irish Devolution (ID), and is formed and modelled after the Scottish National Party (SNP), by the Northern Ireland-based members of the UNP. It works for more devolved powers within the United Kingdom. Unionists are often said to have a conditional loyalty to the British state as a fifth Home Nation so long as it defends their interests. Northern Irelanders see themselves as loyal primarily to the Protestant British governments and institutions, while some may argue they are loyal to 'the Union' over 'Ulster'. A small minority of loyalists have called for an independent Ulster Protestant state, believing they cannot rely on British or Irish/nationalist governments to support them.
