Undergrowth is a fictional villain from Danny Phantom. Resembling the Sumerian deity Ningishzida, he is a ghost with power over plants. He is voiced by famous actor Mark Hamill.

Appearance[edit]

Undergrowth's first appearance was in "Urban Jungle" where he came out from beneath the ground to lay waste to Amity Park for their constant destruction of nature, his "children". Capturing Danny and the others, he reveals his plans to use all the humans (possessed by his mind vines) to cut down the city to make room for his plants which slowly cover every square inch of the city. He also reveals to Danny his best friend Sam is now Undergrowth's 2nd-in-command, one who will serves a "mother" to all the plants.

Danny however escapes due to luck from his uncontrollable ice powers and escapes from both him and Sam into the Ghost Zone. There, he trains with Frostbite to better control his ice powers, then returns for a final showdown with Undergrowth (who have since stored all the humans (sans Sam) inside flower pods for nutrients for his "children"), reducing his powers by freezing the roots below him and his vines, then finally tossing an ectoplasmic freeze bomb of sorts, destroying Undergrowth, and restoring both Amity Park and the citizens.

Undergrowth regenerates afterwards as a tiny stump, but is quickly mowed down by Tucker's lawn mower.

Undergrowth makes two cameos later in the series; first, he appears on a bounty poster in Boxed Up Fury with a reward for $3,000,000 dollars on his head--and the Box Ghost declares in outburst that Undergrowth is no-more than "an overgrown ficus".

Undergrowth's final appearance is in the series finale, Phantom Planet; he first appears attacking Amity Park and is quickly subdued by Vlad's team of Ghost Hunters, the Masters Blasters. He is also one of the many ghosts who helps Danny and Skulker turn the entire planet intangible, so that an asteroid can pass through it.

Personality/ Weakness[edit]

Undergrowth regards plants over all life. To him, they are his "children". He sees humans as fragile, temporary lives that won't last long; "Humans are merely a temporary weed in the garden of life...a weed that can be removed." He prefers using humans to do his dirty work.

If he has any weaknesses, the main one would be extreme cold (and assumable fire). Danny's freeze powers weakened Undergrowth completely. His roots & brain are also his main weakspot. Also, when destroyed he will revert into a weed-like state that might take a long time to return to normal. When last seen at the end of "Urban Jungle", he had managed to regenerate into a small, rudimentary form, only to be reduced to mulch by Tucker's lawnmower.

Powers[edit]

Undergrowth can regenerate himself whenever a part of his body is injured or removed. He can also stretch his body. He has special "mind vines" that can control human minds, along with using them for plant food. He appears to be the only ghost who lacks the ability of flight, since his roots area always underground. He also seems to lack intangibility, because he had no defence against Tucker's lawnmower. However, he was seen flying and turning intangible with the other ghosts who helped Danny in "Phantom Planet".
