URDF (Unified Robot Description Format) is an interchange file format for robot modeling applications popularized by the Robot Operating System (ROS).[1]
URDF defines an open standard XML schema for visualizing, simulating, and controlling modern robotic systems.[2] URDF documents that describe digital assets are XML files, usually identified with a .urdf filename extension.
History
Originally created at Willow Garage[3] it has since become managed by the open source community and non-profit Open Source Robotics Foundation, a spin-out of Willow Garage.[4]
