Uniprix was a popular retail chain launched by the Nouvelles Galeries in 1928.[1]
History[edit]
The first Uniprix store opened in 1928 on rue du Commerce in Paris.[2]
With Monoprix and Prisunic, Uniprix is part of a generation of low-cost or single-price stores, created or developed following the 1929 crisis, all of which were bought by Pierre Lévy in 1953.
In 1991, the Nouvelles Galeries group and its 70 Uniprix stores were bought by Galeries Lafayette.[3] Uniprix is merged with Monoprix, allowing the latter to extend its presence to 144 French cities.[4]
Uniprix becomes a trademark, property of Monoprix holding (siren 552-018-020) registered with the National Institute of Industrial Property under number 1360691.
