United Democratic Front was formed after the result of PEPSU assembly election in 1952. No party was able to get simple majority in assembly however Indian National Congress became single largest party but failed to form government. Then Shiromani Akali Dal, Communist Party of India, Lal Communist Party Hind Union, Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party and Independents formed a coalition called United Democratic Front and Gian Singh Rarewala formed the government, but On March 1953 he resigned and President Rule was imposed and coalition was dissolved before PEPSU assembly election in 1954.
