The United Nations Chamber Music Society (UNCMS) is a musical ensemble associated with the United Nations Staff Recreation Council, established in 2016 in New York City. It comprises UN staff members and diplomats, and it performs concerts that align with United Nations observances and initiatives.

History

The group was founded by pianist and artistic director Brenda Vongova, who works in the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General, where she continues to serve. Since its establishment, the ensemble has performed concerts linked to international observances such as World Refugee Day,[1] Holocaust Remembrance Day, and Nelson Mandela International Day.[2]

Performances and events

The United Nations Chamber Music Society has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall,[3] the United Nations General Assembly Hall, and in collaboration with organizations such as the Abu Dhabi Festival.[4] Its concerts have addressed themes such as refugee relief,[5] biodiversity,[6] and youth empowerment in response to global crises.[7]

In January 2024, The United Nations Chamber Music Society collaborated with Iraqi singer Kadim Al Sahir to launch the song Hold Your Fire. The project, released in partnership with the United Nations, aimed to promote global humanitarian values through musical expression.[8]
