University College Twente provides an English-taught Liberal Arts & Sciences and Technology programme, also known as ATLAS. It is one of the few University Colleges that offers technology alongside a liberal arts and sciences curriculum.

All students follow a three-year honours bachelor programme. They graduate with a degree from the University of Twente with a Bachelor of Science.

Founded in 2013, it is one of the 10 university colleges throughout the Netherlands.[1][2]

Organization[edit]

The current programme director is Ans Netjes.

Academics[edit]

ATLAS[edit]

University College Twente offers a small-scale programme, ATLAS, with a focus on students directing their education. Students must, in the start of each semester, write their own personal development plan. Besides for the core curriculum, students get ECTS credits for a personal pursuit, such as learning a new language, building a robot, or taking a creative writing course.

Grading[edit]

Students will not receive conventional grading, such as an A-F grading, but feedback. By the end of each semester, students must provide sufficient evidence that they have been able to accomplish their personal development plan. This is shown by writing a self-evaluation report.

Further studies[edit]

Students go on to enroll in a variety of master's programmes, such as sociology, artificial intelligence, a variety of engineering degrees, business administration.[6]

In 2016, the first students graduated from University College Twente.[7]

Admission[edit]

The university college has a selective admission procedure. The application procedure includes submission of a transcript, letter of motivation, C.V., English proficiency and identification. Selected candidates will be invited to do an online interview, or to attend an activity on campus.[8]

Rankings[edit]

The Keuzegids (Dutch study choice guide) assesses about 400 bachelor programs on success rate, quality of education, quality of teaching, facilities and more. University College Twente has been rated a “Top Rated Programme” for the past four years.[9][10]
