University of Indonesia Press (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.), also abbreviated UI-Press is the official university press of the Universitas Indonesia (UI). It is one of the oldest university press in Indonesia.[1] In ASEAN, S. Gopinathan in 1985 identified it as one of Indonesia's three major university presses.[2] The press is considered as a leading source for Indonesia's important sociological literature alongside Gramedia.[3]

The press publishes scholarly literature, academic monographs, university textbooks, scientific journals, and translated international works.[4]

Affiliations

Penerbit Universitas Indonesia (UI-Press) is recognized and registered with the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI). The press complies closely with Serah Simpan Karya Cetak Karya Rekam (SSKCKR) requirements, ensuring that its publications are archived as part of Indonesia's national heritage.[5]

UI Publishing is an active member of both the Indonesian Publishers Association [id] and the Association of Indonesian University Presses.[6]

Awards and honors

Books published by the press have received national awards for academic excellence from the National Library of Indonesia. The book Pembelajaran Kolaboratif Daring Asinkronus (Asynchronous Online Collaborative Learning) authored by Dr. Kasiyah, M.Sc., won the Best Book Award in the Distance Learning category from Perpusnas.[7] The book titled Tantangan dan Peran Indonesia dalam Penanganan Perubahan Iklim Global (Indonesia's Challenges and Role in Handling Global Climate Change) by Iskandar Hamonangan received national honors during the National SSKCKR Award Week in the Climate Change literature category.[8]

The Indonesian national daily Republika reported that the Korean Cultural Center was developing a cooperation project with UI-Press for the reciprocal translation of Indonesian and Korean folktales.[9] The press collaborates with Bank Indonesia to publish the Indonesia Sharia Economic Outlook and official economic literature for the annual Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival [id] (ISEF).[10]

History

The books published with the university press were issued under the name Yayasan Penerbit Universitas Indonesia by 1961 and in the 1970s.[11][12][13] Later the press also usethd e forms Penerbit Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Indonesia Press, and UI Press.[14]

By the mid-1980s, the press had become part of Indonesia's small group of major university presses.[2] In an article on academic publishing by Paul H. Kratoska Universitas Indonesia was included among the Southeast Asian universities whose academic presses accounted for the majority of academic titles published in the region.[15]

The press also assisted in the publication of the anthropology journal Antropologi Indonesia for an extended period.[16]
