University of Nicosia
The University of Nicosia (UNIC) is the largest university in Cyprus, established in 1980 with its main campus located in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.[1]
The University comprises six schools and a Medical School, offering more than 100 Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programmes to over 12,500 students from more than 100 countries.[1]
UNIC has developed significantly since its establishment as Intercollege in 1980, becoming a university in 2007 and launching its first medical programme in Cyprus in 2010.[2]
The university is also recognised for its innovation in digital education, blockchain, and cryptocurrency, including the launch of the world’s first MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency in 2014.[2]
UNIC supports students through initiatives such as the Meridian Gaming Scholarships, which provide €1,000 awards to eligible first-year Business students based on financial need, community service, and academic achievement.[3]
According to Times Higher Education, UNIC was ranked among the top 501–600 universities worldwide in 2026.[4]
