University of the Underground
History[edit]
University of the Underground was founded by Nelly Ben Hayoun in February 2017 and is the worlds first tuition free, transnational, post-graduate university..[1] It is a registered charity with a ANBI status (RSIN 8575.82.781).

Mission[edit]
University of the Underground's mission is to provide '100 years of eduction' with it's partner WeTransfer. Both have committed to providing free higher education for at least the next century.[2]
Campus[edit]
University of the Underground is based in the underground of cities[3] - in the basement's of The Village Underground Club in London and De Marktkantine in Amsterdam.
Library[edit]
At the Amsterdam campus, University of the Underground has a library[4] comprised of collections from members of the public and donations from creatives and well-known designers. This is accessible to the public through a monthly membership. Books, records and other collections are stored in the basement of the club and literature seminars are organised on a monthly basis.
Radio Station & Sound Studio[edit]
University of the Underground Amsterdam campus also hosts a sound studio. It currently produces a podcast hosted by the University of the Underground students and creative team entitled '13 Steps Below'[5].

MA Design of Experiences[edit]
University of the Underground offers an accredited full time, two year Master of the Arts in Design of Experiences in through the Gerrit Rietveld Academie's Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam[6]
Course Structure[edit]
The curriculum is concerned with a contemporary and strategic foresight implying politics, sustainability, institutions, new technologies and scientific developments both in Artificial Intelligence and in the current digital ecosystems. It uses design, linguistic, experiential, political, musical and film practices as tools to engage members of the public with the experiences and the debates created.[7]
The programme aims to teach students how to engineer situations, to design experiences and events to best support social dreaming, social actions and power shifts within institutions, companies and governments.[8]

University of the Underground was selected as one of the 'Best of the Year' by the Metropolitan Museum in New York.[9]
