The Untitled Third Rio film [lower-alpha 1] is an upcoming American animated musical comedy film directed by Carlos Saldanha. It is the third installment in the Rio franchise and the sequel to Rio 2 (2014). It will be the first theatrical Rio film not produced by Blue Sky Studios, following the studio's closure on April 10, 2021.
Production
During an interview, Carlos Saldanha conditioned the third film to the success of Rio 2
Director Carlos Saldanha had kept the possibility for Rio 3 open. In April 2014, he stated, "Of course, I have a lot of stories to tell, so we're [starting to] prepare for it.".[2] In 2023, Saldanha stated that he was working on an unknown project to make [it] happen.[3]
