History[edit]
Uratex was founded by Robert G. Cheng[21][8][22] and his wife Natividad Y. Cheng.[23][24][20][25][12]
In 1968, the company was initially established as Polyfoam Chemical Corporation.[26][21][27][25] The company ventured into products, such as specialized foam for electronics, automotive seating, textile, food packaging, and automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products.[6][21][27][8]
In 2000, Uratex began operations of a foaming facility in Bulacan. The following year, the company established a Thin Wall Injection Molding (TWIM) facility to make Readywrap Food Containers.[6]
In 2007, The RGC Group of Companies launched the Uratex Premium Mattress.[28][29][30][31][11] In April 2015, after developing as Uratex, the company opened its P500-million production plant, its first manufacturing facility in Mindanao.[28]
In 2017, it partnered with a Belgian company for avant-garde furniture.[8]
In July 2018, Uratex collaborated with Matteo Guidicelli, a celebrity endorser and sleep specialist.[17][32][15][33]
In 2020 and 2021, the company held its first-ever virtual World Sleep Day celebration in a digital slumber party-themed event.[4][34][35][33] In 2020, Uratex also donated 70 camper mats to health workers. The Civil-Military Operations Regiment facilitated the hauling of the mattresses from Uratex Foam company's factory in Canumay, Valenzuela.[36]
In early 2021, Uratex opened its 24th facility in the US and second in Cebu, Minglanilla.[5][37][12] In August, it installed a 100-kilowatt solar energy source facility to supply electricity to this facility. This was followed by multiple installments in other facilities, including Bulacan, Pangasinan, Iloilo, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.[38][39][40]
On April 22, 2021, the company opened facilities in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.[41] In the same year, Uratex invested in the Board of Investments (BoI) 's approved P560.4-million project of Maxiflex Philippine Corp. in Plaridel, Bulacan.[42][43]
Philanthropy[edit]
In 2018, as part of its 50th anniversary, Uratex launched its corporate social responsibility program, Project 50, with the initiative to provide 2,500 mattresses to hospitals and nursing homes, including The Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC)[44][45][46] and The Care for the Elderly Foundation Inc.[47][8]
In February 2021, Uratex donated over 22-bed mattresses to the Immaculate Concepcion Health Center in Victorias City, which had been affected twice by flash floods that hit northern Negros.[48] The company also donated 70 camper mats to Philippine Army (PA) troops.[49]
