Usman Ganievich Usmanov (Script error: The function "langx" does not exist.; 6 June 1940 – 7 March 2002) was a Soviet-Tajik politician, diplomat, and engineer who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic from 1984 to 1989.
Early life and education
Usmanov was born on 6 June 1940 in Leninabad (now Khujand) in the Tajik SSR, Soviet Union, into a family of civil servants.[1] In 1962 he graduated from the Tajik Polytechnic Institute.[1][2]
Career
Following his graduation, Usmanov worked in the Leninabad (now Khujand) branch of Tajikgiprostroy (Tajik State Institute for Civil Engineering and Construction Projects).[1] On 30 May 1984 Usmanov was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic, succeeding Rustambek Yusufbekov.[1][3] He served in this position until November 1989, when he was succeeded by Lakim Kayumov.[1][2] During his tenure, he also held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Tajik SSR.[1] In September 1986 Usmanov visited New York City in his capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Tajik SSR.[1] In December 1986 he led a Soviet delegation to Ghana, during which he was referred to as U. Usmonov.[1]
Usmanov was married to Nora Abdullaevna Usmanova.[1] He died on 7 March 2002 in Dushanbe at the age of 61.[1]
