Utility brick

The Utility brick is a lengthened form of the common building brick. It is commonly used in construction to create utility walls. Utility bricks typically contain additional holes, whether this is for weight reduction, extra room for reinforcements to be added, or as a byproduct of manufacture is currently unknown.
Properties
Across multiple brick manufacturers there seems to be a standard size and weight amongst the industry, typically a utility brick measures 11 5/8” x 3 5/8” x 3 5/8”, and weighs 8-10.2lbs.[1][2][3][4][5][6] The Utility Brick can be made in many different colors,[1] although the standard crimson color is the most popular among contractors and homeowners alike.[6] The reason behind the additional length is when utility walls are created, there is a gap left in the wall which provides space for electrical and plumbing utilities to be run, the gap also provides a 4 hour fire rating.[7]
