Vada O. Manager
Vada O. Manager is an American management and communications consultant.[1] He is currently the head of Manager Global Consulting.[2][3][4] He also serves on numerous corporate and non-profit boards.[5] He was a senior executive at Nike, Levi Strauss, and Powell Tate.[6] Early in his career he was as a political aide.[7][8][9] He studied at Arizona State University.[10]
Career[edit]
Manager became an aide to Arizona governor and presidential candidate Bruce Babbitt in 1987.[11][8] During the 1988 presidential campaign, Manager made a cameo appearance in a Saturday Night Live skit at the invitation of Al Franken. The skit mocked presidential candidates for abusing grocery store express checkout lines.[12]
Manager served as press secretary to Governor Rose Mofford of Arizona.[13] Manager said Mofford chose him to be the public face of her administration in order to help ease tensions after the racially divisive Mecham administration.[14]
Manager served as press secretary to Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly of Washington, DC.[15]
Manager was a vice president at the Washington, DC based public affairs firm Powell Tate, a division of Weber Shandwick, where he worked in the sports practice. While working for Powell Tate, Manager led a delegation to South Africa to advise the newly elected Mandela government. He also represented clients such as the PGA Tour, Major League Baseball, and Court TV. After his work in South Africa, Manager spent two years asa senior communications executive at Levi Strauss.[1][8][16]
Manager left Levi Strauss for Nike in 1997.[17] He worked at Nike in a variety of roles such as director and then senior director of global issues management, senior strategist, advisor to senior management, and project manager from 2006 until March 2009.[18][9][19] Manager served on the nike.com start-up team, helped manage the messaging associated with the acquisition of Converse and Starter, and was Nike's senior issue strategist during the Olympic Games and the World Cup.[20]
Manager served as vice president of public finance for a brokerage firm based in Phoenix, Arizona. Before moving on to APCO Worldwide where he eventually became a senior vice president, Manager worked independently as a consultant.[19][21]
Manager is the founder of Manager Global Consulting. He founded the firm in 2009.[22] As of 2014, the firm had offices in Portland, Oregon and two other cities.[23]
Manager has made numerous appearances on major broadcast and cable television networks.[19]
Directorships[edit]
Manager became a member of the Arizona Board of Regents at the age of 20 while still an undergraduate at Arizona State University.[24]
Manager was appointed to the board of directors of Ashland Global Holdings in March 2008 and served in that position until 26 January 2017.[9][1] Manager was appointed to Valvoline's board of directors on 21 September, 2016 where he still serves as of late 2017.[1]
The Helios Education Foundation appointed Manager to its board in February 2015.[24][19]
Manager is Chair of the Civilian Public Affairs Committee of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.[25]
Savoy magazine named Manager to its list of the most powerful black corporate directors in 2016.[9] He was named again in 2017.[19]
Politics and public service[edit]
Manager was on the communications teams for both the 1992 and 1996 Democratic National Conventions. He also helped organize a presidential debate that was hosted in Arizona in October 2004. He has also been involved with the American Council on Germany and the Rainbow/Push Coalition.[8][19]

Manager earned an bachelor of science degree in political science from Arizona State University. He attended the London School of Economics as a graduate student.[1][8]
