Vadakkumkur was a principality that existed between 1100 A.D. and 1750 A.D. in the middle lands of Kerala comprising the present day Kaduthuruthy, Velloor, Vaikom, Thalayolapparambu, Kuravilangadu, Piravom, Muvattupuzha, Koothattukulam, Thodupuzha, and Kothamangalam areas. The capital of the principality was Kaduthuruthy. This is reiterated in "Unnuneeli Sandhesam" the famous Manipravala Kavyam of the 14th century. This principality was formed on the division of Vembolinadu @ Bimbalinadu@ Venmalanadu a vassal state of the then Kulasekhara Kings, into two separate principalities of Thakkumkur and Vadakkumkur. During the period from 1100 to 1600 Vadakkumkur and Keezhmalainadu were separate states. Keezhmalainadu was amalgamated in Vadakkumkur, with the marital relationship of the Rani with the Crown prince of Vadakkumkur in 1597. The combined state existed till the invasion by Travancore forces in 1749 under the leadership of Rammayyan on the orders of Travancore King Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma.
