Fau Vake
Fau Vake (1995/1996 – 25 May 2021)[1][2] was an amateur mixed martial arts fighter from New Zealand.[3][4]

Early life[edit]
Fau Vake was born in either 1995 or 1996 in New Zealand. He attended Kelston Boys' High School.[5]
In 2012, Fau suffered a broken jaw after being hit from behind.[6]
Career[edit]
Over the course of his career, Fau was known to have only played one match in 2016, which he won.[1]
Fau was a member of City Kickboxing. His teammates included Israel Adesanya, Dan Hooker, and Brad Riddell.[5][7]
Death[edit]
During the morning of 16 May 2021, Fau was attacked while waiting for a taxi on Symonds Street in Auckland.[5] He sustained critical injuries and was transported to Auckland City Hospital.
After seven days, he died of his injuries on 25 May, 2021 at the age of 25.[5][7]
The four assailants were arrested and were brought to trial in Auckland.[5][7]
After Fau's death, many New Zealand MMA fighters paid their respects to him, with Israel Adesanya calling for new "coward punch" laws that would punish assaults from behind.[6]
