Valuto

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Valuto (VLU) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project released under the MIT license.[1]

The creation, transfer and storage of Valuto is based upon an open source cryptographic protocol, and therefore it is not managed by any authority, i.e. decentralized. Valuto's technical details and inspiration derive from Bitcoin (BTC).

History

Valuto released its day zero commit on Github, on December 14, 2017[1], and the network went live from day zero. Valuto is a clone of Litecoin, and the differences are primarily a decreased block generation time (30 seconds) and an increased maximum total supply of coins.

The reason for creating Valuto derives from the e-commerce world, where Valuto seeks to be a greater alternative than current methods. The founder of Valuto comes from a background in e-commerce, generating millions of transactions.[2]

  • The first tests and development started in early 2017, and Valuto was officially released on December 14th.
  • In January 2018, the official webwallet for Valuto was released on Valutowallet[3]
  • In February 2018, both the Alpha and Beta version of the ValutoPy local wallet were released.[4]
  • On March 8th, Valuto was listed on Coinexchange.io, as its first market listing against BTC.[5]
  • On April 16th, Valuto was listed on Stocks.Exchange, again paired against BTC.[6]
  • On May 2nd, Valuto and its information was added to Coinlib.io

Differences from Litecoin

Valuto is different from both Litecoin and Bitcoin.

  • The Valuto blockchain generates a new block every 30 seconds, rather than Litecoin's 2.5 minutes or Bitcoin's 10 minutes. The idea behind this is that lower block time allows for faster transactions and confirmations on the Valuto network.
  • Valuto and Litecoin both use scrypt in its proof-of-work algorithm, which can be described as a sequential memory-hard function requiring more memory than an algorithm which is not memory-hard. Because of this, ASIC and FPGA mining devices are not suitable for mining on the Valuto network.
  • Valuto's maximum supply of coins is capped at 133,000,007 million, instead of Litecoin's 84,000,000 million.
