Origin[edit]

The Vanjari community is believed to have originated from the descendants of Renuka Devi. Renuka Mata and Jamdagni Rishi had five sons, namely: Vashumanta, Bhagai, Sushauna, Vishwavastu and Parashuram respectively. From Vashumanta, Sage Kamanduka had sons Raghupati, Adhipati, Kanupathi and Subhanupathi respectively.
From Raghupati, 1) Ravajin,
Adhipati 2) Ladjin,
Kanipati 3) Mathurajan and
Subhanupathi 4) Bhusarjin
originated the "four successive branches". Today all these four branches are one and known as Vanjari.[2]

Conventional Prior Occupation[edit]

In Rajasthan, the Vanjari community served as the chief general in the army of Maharana Pratap Singh. Sri Bhallasingh Vanjari and Sri Fattesingh Vanjari were the chief generals of Maharana Pratap Singh. His tomb is still in Udaipur Rajasthan. While in Rajasthan, this community was known as bitter fighting Kshatriyas. Even today this society is found in large numbers in Rajasthan. Suffered by the Yavana invasions, they migrated southwards. And started doing business. Vanjari community has been engaged in the transportation/supply of goods since ancient times before the invention of means of communication. When Shivaji Maharaj came to Maharashtra, there were a large number of Vanjaris in his army. In earlier times, the Vanjari community was engaged in trade along with cargo transportation.

Vanjari was a hero and was a soldier of Maharana Pratap. Maharana Pratap's general Malla was a Vanjari caste.

Today's Status[edit]

Today, except for the handful of fertile people in Maharashtra who are government officials, employees and professionals, the state of Vanjari society has become an unwanted part of the society.

This Vanjari community divided into four sub-castes has been organized due to the efforts of Saint Shri Bhagwan Baba (Bhagwangad, Ta Pathardi Ji Ahmednagar) and people leader Gopinathraoji Munde. Due to this great effort, the entire Vanjari community has become one today. And in the coming time, the Vanjari community all over India is seen to be united. Munde is considered a leader by the Vanjari community. [3] www.loksatta.com|language=mr-IN|access-date=2018-03-20}}</ref>.
