Vascarta
Vascarta is a New Jersey-based company focused on an improved platform for the delivery of botanical pharmaceuticals.
History
Vascarta was founded in 2020 by Richard Prince, Joel Friedman, Travis Gering, Graeme Silbert and Bjorn Song. The origin of the company was Dr. Friedman’s discovery.[1] of a way to improve the oral delivery of botanicals such as curcumin and quercetin through the use of a transdermal delivery platform. This discovery was granted US patent number US11484493B2, published on November 1, 2022[2].
The discovery was exclusively licensed from Albert Einstein College of Medicine where Dr. Friedman served as a professor[3].
Scientific Research
Most of the research involving Vascarta’s technology is not yet published. The two initial scientific publications describe experiments where dysfunction created in the blood vessel lining (endothelium[4]) of rats was prevented by the application of curcumin transdermally delivered with Vascarta’s technology[5],[6]
Vascarta’s technology is currently being studied by the United States Food and Drug Administration Center for Biologics and Evaluation Research to determine if it can improve the storage of donated human blood[7]
Product Availability
Vascarta’s topical transdermal curcumin product has not been approved by the US FDA, but it is available as a compounded product, with a valid prescription, through Town & Country Compounding Pharmacy[8], in the 15 states where this pharmacy is currently licensed to supply compounded drugs.
This page was drafted by Paul Sklar, a part-time consultant to Vascarta.
