Vasilije Dimitrijevic (bishop)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Vasilije Dimitrijević was a Serbian Orthodox Bishop of the Diocese of Buda in the first part of the 18th century.

Bishop Vasilije was born in Novi Sad. Prior to his election as Bishop of Buda, he was a high-ranking monk (sindjelos) of the Belgrade-Karlovac Metropolitans Vikentije Popović-Hadžilavić and Mojsije Petrović, whom he represented as the archbishop's deputy during their absence from the residence. He did so when Metropolitan Vikentije (Popović) put him in charge of meeting with several princes in the Hopovo monastery and informing them of the royal decree regarding the lawsuits of the Serbian people for violating Serbian privileges and imposed duties.

Since his testamentary bequests to the Patriarchate of Peć were not executed after the death of Metropolitan Vikentije (1725), Patriarch Arsenije IV Jovanović-Šakabenta rebuked Archangel Vasilije (Dimitrijević) from Niš on 15 November 1727: “if we are poor, I think and pray hope that we will not be forgotten by God, and then pray that you will write us off because of the promised veil on the ark of the holy miracle-worker of Christ Arsenij Srbskago, your late master, our brother, Metropolitan Vicentius. Why don't you fulfill and send the bequest thus laid to you by your lord, the Holy Great Church and to that pleasing man of God? Do you know that we want to place Saint Arsenius to bring the testament with which he knows how to bring it to himself? " The monk Vasilije fullfilled what was asked of him by Patriarch Arsenije. Later, he elevated to the status of Metropolitan.
