Velic (endonym: Wělčinaen or Wělski Jezyken) is a West Slavic language created by an independent linguist as a modern continuation of the historical Slavic dialect continuum. It is designed to resemble a natural member of the West Slavic group, standing between Polish, Czech, and Slovak while featuring simplified morphology and regularized spelling.

History

The Velic language, originally known as Lower Slavic, emerged around 2020 as part of an online linguistic project. It was later reconstructed and standardized under the name Velic by its creator, aiming to revive and regularize features of early West Slavic dialects. Although it no longer has active speakers, Velic survives as a documented example of a modern West Slavic revival language.

Geographic distribution

Velic is a constructed language with no native speakers, but it is used by hobbyists and linguists online. Because of its close similarity to Polish, Czech, and Slovak, speakers of those languages can understand it with little study.

Writing system

Velic uses the Latin alphabet, similar to the Czech and Polish systems, with diacritics for palatal and postalveolar sounds. Alphabet: A B C Ć Č D E Ě F G H I J K L Ł M N O P R Ř S Ś Š T U V W Y Z Ž

Phonology
