Velmo, usually rendered as Chase Velmo, [1] was the tradename given to a mohair velvet pile fabric woven from Angora goat fleece. It began to be offered as an automobile upholstery in the United States in the 1920s. It was made by Sanford Mills of Maine, USA, who in 1924 were America's oldest and the world's largest weavers of mohair velvet. Marketed by L C Chase and Company of Boston, USA, Chase Velmo was not waterproof and was suitable only for use in closed cars.
