VelocityChess is a chess online community founded in 2013, which claims to have over 80,000 registered users as of April 2016.[1]
VelocityChess uses "vChip", a virtual currency system, an experience point-based reward system, and allows play of chess games with time and betting handicaps.[2] The website uses a proprietary matchmaking technology, which aims to arrange fair matches between two players of any skill level through the use of handicaps. Members also can earn rewards by choosing to redeem its virtual currency for cash and other prizes.[3] The site has since been shut down indefinitely from December 4. Rumours suggest that it ran bankrupt due to regulatory issues.
