In 1907, in the village of Purviai II, a school was opened. It had about 20 students and the first teacher was Jokubauskas. From 1907 to 1939, the number of students increased to 40. Two teachers worked: Adolfina Volkuvienė (her husband worked as the chief of the Akmenė train station) and Žukauskaitė. The school was moved from a private house to a house belonging to the railway station near Venta, which is still standing today.[2]

In 1949, the school was reorganised into a seven-year school. At that time, the school had 120 students and 14 teachers. In 1954, the school was reorganised again as a nine-year school and joined the Dabkinė Secondary School, which was located in three different buildings. That year, the school had 240 students and 14 teachers. In 1957, the school released its first graduate class. In 1960, the school moved into the newly constructed school building.[2]

In 1966, the villages of Purviai II and Bauskas were merged to form Venta and the Dabikinė Secondary School was renamed into Venta Secondary School. In 1972, a three-story extension with a sports hall and 14 classrooms was built.[2]

In 2008 the school was given the status of gymnasium.[2]
