Venu Som Nair, born on 22 December 1964 is an Indian film director, film producer, screenwriter, and occasional actor known for his work in Malayalam cinema and television. He has started his film and television career with the Malayalam serial Jathaka Kathakal in 1990 and till now he has produced and directed around 150 projects including feature films, advertisement films, documentaries, mini-series and serials.

Venu was born in 1964 in Alappuzha to Soman Nair and Rajamma, both of whom were in the government service. He graduated from KE College Mannanam, University of Kerala and did his post-graduation in Gandhian Studies at MG University. He has got training in filmmaking at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.

Venu received awards for his serial Sethuvinte kathakal in 2000 from the State Bank of Travancore, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and Kerala Film Critics Association. His documentary film Farming Our Future won two Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Awards and the International Recycling Fund Award at Ekotopfilm 2009, Bratislava from the Republic Of Slovakia. His documentary film Digging Mercy won the Prize Of UN FAO at the AGROFILM 2010, Nitra, Slovak Republic. He has won national and state awards for his documentary film The Mythology of Aranmula Metal Mirror as the Best Tourism Film from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and Kerala State Award in 2008. He has won three more Kerala State awards for his documentaries.  

His feature film Jalasamadhi (Death By water) 2019 was selected to 56 international film festivals and won 52 international awards. His films have won 70 odd awards globally. He founded the 7th Art Independent International Film Festival, an indie film festival in 2020. Currently, he is serving as the Chairman and Festival director.

He is based in Thiruvananthapuram and is married to Gurdeep Kaur. He has two daughters Gautami Venu Nair and Gayatri Venu Nair.
