Vera Freeman

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Vera Freeman (1865 - 1896) was a stage actress who was found dead at the Pomeroy Hotel in Manhattan, at Broadway and 59th Street, on the morning of January 25, 1896. Her death was attributed to morphine, which she took for insomnia.[1]

Personal life

Freeman, born Vera Snedley[2] or Vera Swadley[3], was originally from Wabash, Indiana.[2] She married Max Freeman, a theatrical promoter for "The Fencing Master" company,[4] on March 20, 1883. Max was sued by Vera for infidelity with actress Maud Kenyon,[5] when Vera noted trouble between the two of them arose while Max was traveling.[6] When he realized Vera would file for divorce, Max Freeman publicly announced that they were separating and noted that he would not pay for "any debts she may contract".[7]

Max was in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the time of her death.[7]
