Location and description[edit]

Verdo is a new area which will be built with Brentford's new Community Stadium. It lies 250 meters north of Kew Bridge and is bordered by the M4, A205 and the rail line. It shares borders with Strand-on-the-Green, Gunnersbury and Brentford.

Although it will not have the most stunning views to the north, it has a nice view and contrast of old buildings and new. Looking down from the north, you will see the new stadium and shops, blended with the old Kew Bridge Station.

The main street will be Lionel Road South, as well as the clockwise side of the A205. New shops will be built in the area along with the stadium, which is expected to be open by June 2020. Although in the London Borough of Hounslow, it is covered by the TW8 postcode and is therefore in Middlesex County. Although, it does very closely border London, which is on the other side of the A205.

Notable Locations[edit]

Although small, this 0.2 km² settlement already has some notable locations and will have more soon.[2] Some of these include

The Brentford Community Stadium[edit]

The Brentford Community Stadium is a stadium currently under construction in Brentford, West London with a projected capacity of 18,000. It is planned to be the home of Brentford FC and London Irish RFC. Like the settlement, it is being built by EcoWorld, a planning company based in Malaysia.[4] EcoWorld are also the shirt sponsor of Brentford FC, whom will be the main new tenants of the Community Stadium. Hounslow Council has been pushing a proposal for an extension of Crossrail to Hounslow via Kew Bridge, using one of these freight lines. The outline document suggested a station could be built to serve the Lionel Road site. The proposal is unlikely to make it into the first phase of the Crossrail project, but might be a later addition to the route. The nearest London Underground Tube station is Gunnersbury, served on both the District Line and London Overground. It is also near Kew Gardens (District+Overground) and Acton Town (Piccadilly and District).

Other plans[edit]

As Verdo is a small settlement between the M4 and the River Thames, no houses will be built. Instead, many apartment blocks are being put in. As the South China Morning Post put it: "Verdo Kew Bridge has been designed as both a community hub and a destination to attract visitors from elsewhere in London. Its shops, cafes and restaurants are complemented by those at the neighboring Brentford Football Club stadium."[5] Another new addition to the neighbourhood is the East Houses, which have been described as 'Luxury Living'. These three buildings have been named Jasmine House, Ivy House and Lily House. These are be situated north of Kew House School. Each building features 13 floors of 84 contemporary apartments, a private gym, private lounge and a private garden.[6] Plans to build a new Ibis Hotel have been abandoned due to there being no renting space left.
