Verify-Sy is a Syrian media watchdog established in 2016.[1] It focuses on fact-checking and addressing misinformation.[2] It is affiliated with the US-based non-profit journalism research group, the Poynter Institute.[3]

Verify-Sy drew media attention after disputing a CNN report by Clarissa Ward on the rescue of a prisoner from a prison cell in Damascus. The report featured a man identifying himself as Adel Gharbal, claiming to be a civilian detainee. Verify-Sy later identified him as Salama Mohammad Salama, an officer of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate and reportedly a member of the Assad regime, accused of war crimes.[4][5][6]
