Verisart is a Los Angeles-based[1] blockchain certification service enabling creators and collectors to create COAs (Certificates of Authenticity) securely registered on the blockchain. The company is known to be the first to apply blockchain technology to the physical art and collectibles market.[2] Verisart is also a founding member of the Arts Innovators Alliance.[3]

History

In 2015, Verisart was co-founded by a group of leaders within digital media, contemporary art, and distributed ledger technology: Adam Dinwiddie, CTO and a former CTO of Collectrium, Bradford Schlei, Head of Artist Relations and a Yale Law School graduate, and Robert Norton, CEO and an Internet media executive and formerly CEO of art e-commerce sites such as Saatchi Online and co-founder of Sedition Art.[1]

The platform uses blockchain, the ledger technology underlying Bitcoin, to verify artwork's authenticity.[4]

Verisart has since partnered with several art industry stakeholders, including eBay, Art Systems,[5] and the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS).[6] Other partnerships include Paddle8,[7] SuperRare,[8] Vouched,[9] Artsy,[10][11] .ART,[12][13] and Shopify.[14] It has also worked with some of the best known artists, including Ai Wei Wei and Shepard Fairey to certify their works of art.[8][10]
