The Vernetta Smith Chehalis Timberland Library is located in Chehalis, Washington and is operated by the Timberland Regional Library. It is named in honor of the mother of former Chehalis resident, Orin Smith, the library's chief donor. It was completed in 2008 after the original Carnegie library (opened in 1910) and Chehalis City Hall were torn down in September 2007.[1][2][3]
History
Carnegie Library
The area was temporarily the site of East Side Park. Begun in 1906 but never completed due to grade and road improvement issues,[4] the park occupied a triangular area between the current library's location and the St. Helens Hotel at the south end of the downtown district.[5][6]
