Viant Technology is an advertising software company, the parent company of social media service Myspace, and the owner of subscription-based omnichannel demand-side platform Adelphic, which advertisers use for programmatic advertising campaigns across Connected TV, desktop, mobile, audio, and digital out-of-home every day. It is a publicly traded company on the NASDAQ, and went public on February 10, 2021.[1]

History

Viant was co-founded in 1999 by brothers Tim, Chris, and Russ Vanderhook who had a mission to automate the planning, buying, and measurement of advertising.[2]

In 2011, Viant acquired the social network website Myspace.com[3].

In 2011, Tim and Chris founded Xumo, a connected TV streaming service, that offers live streaming channels, and shows and movies available to stream on demand. Xumo was sold to Comcast Corp. in 2020.[4]

In 2016, Time Inc. acquired a 60% interest, allowing Viant to integrate its consumer data and Time's premium content with their combined advertising technology[5]. Viant purchased the mobile ad company Adelphic in 2017[6], transforming from a provider of digital advertising solutions into a platform enabling marketers to centralize the planning, buying, and measurement of their media investments. The Adelphic platform's strength grew in 2018 when Meredith Corporation acquired an interest in Viant through its purchase of Time Inc.[7]

In 2019, the Vanderhook brothers bought back the 60% stake sold to Time Inc. in 2016, allowing it to once again become an independent company[8]

Viant is headquartered in Irvine, California and as of September 30, 2020, had 282 employees in its eleven offices around the United States. As of September 2020, Viant has 26 issued patents and nine additional pending patent applications.[9]

In December 2020, Viant's DSP Adelphic was named to Ad Exchange’s Programmatic Power Players list. In January 2021, Viant was named a Best Place to Work by Ad Age and Built In LA.
