Victor Volkov is a scientist who works on structural analysis at bio and bio-mineral interfaces using methods of optical spectroscopy under microscopic resolutions and quantum chemistry.
Early biography
Volkov mastered biophysics at Moscow State Lomonosov University (1999–2004), and fulfilled PhD requirements in physical chemistry in Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta (1996–2001).
Research
Motivated by the BIOCARS initiative[1], there are contributions in experimental demonstrations and in developing response function theory of phase-locked two-dimensional (2D) femtosecond infrared and sum-frequency generation spectroscopy[2], and in structural analysis applications when in phospholipid membranes.
Following these, the main efforts are in:
1) building a rigorous explanation of the colors of blood: finding plausible quantum electronic states to explain the electronic transitions in the near infrared spectral range, allowing computation of resonant Raman tensors to reproduce Raman microscopy resolved images;[3]
2) development of quantum chemistry based methods of microscopy image reconstructions accounting for anisotropic distributions at complex interfaces;[4]
3) managing polariton Bose-Einstein droplet regime at room temperature[5] to provide Raman enhancement at the interface of micro-spherical sensors.
