Victoria Kent
Train Driver
In 2001 the Western Australian Government Railway, now known as the Public Transport Authority, hired their first female train drivers[1], when Victoria Kent graduated[2]. She was the first female[3] in the 110-year [4] history to qualify to drive the passenger trains on the Perth network.
Victoria went on to become the first female Driver Trainer and Driver Coordinator, providing training and instruction to other Drivers.
Last Train to Freo
When Jeremy Sims made his directorial debut in 2006 adapting Reg Cribb's play "The Return" into a movie called "Last Train to Freo", Victoria worked with the director on the three-night shoot driving the cast and crew around the Perth rail network as they filmed.
Rail IRC
Victoria has been an active member on the Rail Industry Reference Committee since 2015, performing duties as the Chair from 2017 to 2019 and Deputy Chair from 2019 to 2021.
As part of the RAIL IRC Victoria has been a panelist at the AIS Future Skills Forum[5] discussing skilling the workforce in the age of digitalisation. Victoria has also been a panelist and presenter at the Training Providers Forum[6], Global Roar 1010 in 2020[7] and the Industry Skills 360 webinar series[8].
Victoria has been involved in multiple Technical Advisory Committee's to create and update VET training packages.
Rio Tinto and South Metro
Victoria participated in the partnership between Rio Tinto and South Metro TAFE in 2020 to deliver an Australian first[9] with new qualifications and training for working with autonomous equipment. Victoria chaired the working group that brought together stakeholders across industry to identify skill requirements for working with automation.
