Vijayanathan Dhaharasen
Vijayanathan Dhaharasen, known professionally as Composer Jay is a Malaysian Indian music director, composer, vocalist and vocal tutor. He hails from Penang, Northern state of Malaysia. The first film that deputed him as a music director was the movie called Ethirkaalam, in 2006 under the direction of C. Kumaresan. Jay received his biggest commercial success for the song 'Uyirai Tholaithen', from a Malaysian Indian telemovie called Kadhal Veendum, which was released on the year of 2007. This song was sung by his childhood friend Dhillip Varman and it was his debut song. Jay currently owns a studio named 'Orange Box Studio' under his own production called Orange Box Records in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Early and personal life[edit]
Jay was born on 29th May, 1976 to Mr. Dhaharasen, a driver and Mrs. Sundari. He is the eldest of 3 siblings. He has a younger brother and sister. He was born and brought up in Penang. Jay started developing an interest in music at a very early age and started playing keyboard at the age of 9. He went on and created his own musical band at the age of 13 and named it ‘Minnal’. Growing up as a teenager, often times, he would spend the nights by playing music at the local pubs and clubs. Despite receiving strong opposition from his father, Jay kept on going. Jay, upon completing his high school, worked as an office boy at a lawyers firm at his hometown. His manager who saw his talent, decided to set up a recording studio at the office in order to help him pursue his passion. This was his first recording studio, and Jay started working on his projects from here. Soon after, Jay moved to Kuala Lumpur to become a full time music director.
Career[edit]
Upon his arrival in Kuala Lumpur, Jay landed himself a job at Stigmax Sound Studio and became the first Indian to be working with them. He initiated the ‘Voice Bank’ project; a program which trains new talents to becoming a professional contemporary singer. With the ‘Voice Bank’ project reaching immense acceptance, he soon landed himself an opportunity to compose song for a Malaysian movie called ‘Ethirkaalam’.
Over the years, jay has composed scores for many jingles and ads. Round about 2011, Jay joined forces with Ms. Selvi (THR Raaga) and Mr. Unni Krihsnan, a businessman from India, to initiate a music school called ‘Odyssey Vocal Training Centre’ in Brickfields. Jay started conducting the 'Voice Culture Program' here as well. Students will be trained in both, Carnatic Indian music and Contemporary Music. The Carnatic Indian Music is taught by Mrs. Preetha Prasad, and Indian Carnatic vocalist, meanwhile the Contemporary Music will be taught by Jay himself. Upon successful completion of the courses with several batches, Jay gathered a number of students who aced there to form a band called Odyssey MyBand. Odyssey MyBand is also believed to be the Malaysia’s first Indian harmonising band. Odyssey Myband has performed on national televisions, and also has worked in collaboration with ASTRO Television for several projects.
Apart from that, Jay also has collaborated with ASTRO Television with their local talent search / singing competition called Vaanavil Super Star. He has been playing a role in the management and coordination of this event since the year of 2008. As years passed, he permanently became a part of the Vaanavil Super Star event management team. He has composed for almost all the theme songs of this event. As mentioned, for the event Vaanavil International Super Star, which was held on 15th August 2015, singers such as Dato' Siti Nurhaliza, Indian actress and playback singer Andrea Jeremiah, along with multiracial Malaysian singers such as Goldkartz, Vivek Ji, Gowri Arumugam, Fuying and Sam, performed a harmonised version of the song Nenje Ezhu; accompanied by Odyssey MyBand, as the grand opening act.[1][2] This was another big commercial success for him. Besides that, Jay has also composed a remixed version of the classical hit, Endrum Patinaru for the event Vaanavil Super Star Endrum 16 - Year 2016. And at the grand finale of this event, Jay in accompany with Odyssey MyBand performed a harmonised version of the old song 'Thulluvatho Illamai' as a guest performance act.[3]

Despite the movie not being released, the song has got more than 20,000 views in Youtube.
