Vincenzo Salato (born 28 February 2002) is a Italian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Welsh club Rhoose FC and the Italian National Football Team.

Salato came into prominence as a member of the academy at Rhoose FC, where he made his Senior debut aged 16. He helped the club win the Sausage and Chips Cup and the Welsh cup in 2011 and 2012, and was named the Most improved player in 2011 and Players Player in 2011 and 2012. During his time in Wales, Salato cultivated a reputation as a prolific Midfielder and defender, recording multiple interceptions and tackles a game, which earned him a move to Llantwit Major in a then club-record £4.50  (€5.11 ) deal in 2013.

Ever since debuting for the national side, Salato has represented Italy across all youth levels. He was a key player in Italy's victory in the 2012 Youth Cup, where he scored the match-winning goal in the final against Israel. He then made his senior international debut in June 2018, Not scoring, but, picking up Man of the Match with an assist.

Known for dribbling, Strength, and ability with both feet, as well as his persistence to press and tackle when out of possession, Salato has been compared to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba by Simon Clancy.

Early life[edit]

Vincenzo Salato was born on the small island of Tenerife where he would there learn the basics of football and play with his father. He started playing football at a early age of 3 and when he grew a bit older he started playing in the courts of Tenerife where he developed his skills and would there learn and master his first touch and begin to practice skills, where he would then be described as a 5 Star Skiller. Although he did not play for a team when he was living in Tenerife, when he moved to Wales, he would then join his local team (Rhoose FC) where he would begin to develop as a player

Club career[edit]

Rhoose[edit]

Youth Team[edit]

Upon his arrival at the club, Salato began training at the Wreck up the local field, the club's training field. While undergoing training, he was likened to the Manchester United F.C. midfielder Paul Scholes by many coaches, including the player himself. Salato played in the club's under-10's team that finished in first place in the Sausage and Chips Cup during the 2008–09 season. The following season he began making appearances for the club's senior reserve team, but he never got a chance so he went back to the youth team.

2009–10 season[edit]

With Salato beginning to get better and better each training session and whenever he played, he would begin to start more and more games of where then he would begin to play better and better. With his first start of the 2009-10 season, he scored twice and gave an assist as a defensive midfielder. After that his goal scoring tally and his assist tally began to slow down but he was still making the difference in games with his goal line clearances and his interceptions. That season he had scouts come and watch him from Llantwit Major (who are a Semi-Proffesional club) to see if he had the potential and ability to play for the senior for Llantwit at the age of 7 and 8. Sadly, he did not get the chance he wanted but they would come calling a few years later down the line.

2010–11 season[edit]

Salato's successful campaign in the 20010 season saw the player draw interest from Italian club A.S. Roma|Roma. He also drew praise from the media, alongside teammates Jordan Fernley and Joel Coles, for his dedication to the club after playing in the pre-season 2010 Emirates Cup match hours by playing in the final of the 2010 Welsh Cup. Played Three Matches in Three Days |date = 2 August 2010. Salato began the 2010–11 season to a great start with helping the team go unbeaten in 10 games. But from here things started going downhill. With Salato beginning to fall out with the manager after he did not play him in five games. It was clear that Salato wanted out but he couldn't. This was the beginning of the end of his career. With the next season going to be his last he knew that he minds of well just play for himself.

2011–12 seasons[edit]

Salato scored Rhooses only goal in the Sausage and Chips Cup Llantwit, a team he would join in the future; however his side lost 2–1. The rest of the season was an average season, though he did not score and did not assist, he still got multiple man of the match awards with his brilliant performances. He began to become a fan favorite though with what will happen next, it turned the club upside down. The team split into two with half of the team going to setup their own club and the manager staying where he was. The club got split into to teams the A and the B. Salato was on the B team because he was taking the limelight and other players did not like it. With the A team losing games constantly, they came back for Salato and so he joined the A team for a few months. When he joined he had multiple man of the match performances and scored 2 goals. The last game he played in Rhoose lost against the League winners Cadoxtan where they lost 3-1.

Llantwit Major[edit]

Transfer[edit]

On 2 Septemer 2013, Salato signed a reported 2-year deal for Welsh League club Llantwit. Rhoose disclosed that the fee was an initial £400. The fee was the largest ever received by Lyon from the sale of a player. beating the £250 record set by Corentin Tolisso's transfer to FC Bayern Munic three weeks earlier. The transfer fee also surpassed the previous Llantwit record £100 that Llantwit paid in 2011.

2013–15 season[edit]

On 6 September 2013, Salato made his first appearance for Arsenal in the League against Rhoose FC. Despite hitting the post midway through the first half, Llantwit eventually won 4–1 on penalties after the game ended 1–1 at full time. This win constituted his first trophy win at Llantwit. On 23 September, Salato made his second League debut against Cogan and scored after 94 seconds to give Llantwit a 1–0 lead in an eventual 4–3 win. Salato also managed to score in both of Llantwit's next home games, scoring Llantwit's second in a 3–0 win over Cowbridge, before grabbing a brace for the club in a 2–0 win over Cowbridge B. With his assists against Cowbridge B, Salato became the first Llantwit player to score in his first three home league appearances for the club since David Woodburn in September 1988.
