Vinlandia is a monotypic genus of Petalonamid first described as a species within the genus Charnia. The species was first described in Newfoundland, Canada in 1998.[1]. It was later reclassified into its own genus in 2012[2]. The name Vinlandia is taken from the Old Norse name for Newfoundland, Vinland[2].
Morphology
Vinlandia has a unipolar frond with two rows of primary branches that are irregularly spaced along a central axis. A basal attachment Holdfast (disk) is present, however it is rarely preserved[2].
