Virgil's Root Beer
Virgil's Root Beer is an all-natural, handcrafted root beer developed in 1994 by Edward Crowley and Jill Fraser Crowley, owners of Crowley Beverage Co. The company was acquired in 1999 by Reed's Inc.[1]
Virgil's Root Beer won the "Outstanding Beverage" Award at the International Fancy Food and Confection Show in 1994, 1996 and 1997.
Virgil's Root Beer is crafted with a blend of natural spices and cane sugar. These include anise from Spain, licorice from France, vanilla from Madagascar, cinnamon from Ceylon, cloves and nutmeg from Indonesia, wintergreen and cassia oil from China, pimento berry oil from Jamaica, and balsam oil in Peru.[1]
Since 1999, Virgil's has expanded its product line to include vanilla cream, black cherry, orange, lemon-lime and cola.[1]
In 2018, Virgil's added a new line of Zero Sugar sodas based on an all-natural, proprietary sweetener blend.[1]
History[edit]
In the early 1990s, Ed Crowley retired from his family-owned soda company with the purpose of crafting “a root beer for connoisseurs.” Crowley began developing his root beer based on old recipes his family had produced in the 1920s. After years of development, Virgil's Root Beer hit shelves in 1994.
