Virgo and The Sparklings is an Indonesian upcoming live action superhero film directed by Ody C. Harahap.[1]
This film was produced by Screenplay Bumilangit based on a webtoon comic titled Virgo and The Sparklings created by Annisa Nisfihani and Ellie Goh in 2017.[2] The main character of the film is taken from the Indonesian superhero comic Virgo, written by Jan Mintaraga in 1973.[3]

Production[edit]
On December 7, 2019, Joko Anwar as the creative producer of Bumilangit Cinematic Universe announced Adhisty Zara will play the character Virgo in the film Virgo and The Sparklings.[5] At that time he said he was still looking for an actor to play the character Leo in this film. Bumilangit also held a talent search to play in the film. Joko's reason for holding a talent search is because he wants to find new young talents considering that there are still a few actors in Indonesia. For teenagers who are interested, they must upload a video showing their acting and singing skills in 1 minute duration and then upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #virgotalentsearch.[6]
On April 17, 2020, Bumilangit Studios announced that Bryan Domani would play the character Leo. Satine Zaneta and Ashira Zamita will be members of the band The Sparklings. Mawar Eva de Jongh and Rebecca Klopper were also announced to star in the film. In addition to Satine and Ashira who were selected from the Virgo Talent Search, Rachel Florencia, Mentari Novel, and Indah Kusuma were also selected to play the personnel of The Scorpion Sisters.[7]
Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, script reading of this film needs to be done online.[8]
On September 21, 2020, Wicky V. Olindo as producer of Screenplay Productions said Virgo and The Sparklings will soon start shooting outside Jakarta.[9]
Release[edit]
Virgo and The Sparklings was originally slated to be released in mid-2020, but because the government is promoting social distancing or avoiding crowds to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film has been postponed indefinitely.[10]
