Visit Kurdistan is a private company[1] based in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, that seeks to promote tourism to the region. The company is part of a broader effort by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to diversify the economy.[2]

Activities

Visit Kurdistan promotes the Kurdistan Region through partnerships with companies and brand ambassadors worldwide.[2] Apart from promotional campaigns abroad, Visit Kurdistan also engages with local stakeholders to improve tourism infrastructure.[3] For that the company is "working hand-in-hand with the KRG."[4]

Development of local areas

In February 2025, the company signed a $160 million agreement with Leitner Ropeways to build a 10-kilometer cable car spanning across the mountains of Soran. According to estimates, the seven-stop ropeway would be among the longest in the world and is projected to create more than 500 jobs and contribute $50 million to the local economy during its first year of operation.[5]

Partnerships with athletes and influencers

Among the brand ambassadors are athletes such as World Boxing Council interim heavyweight champion Agit Kabayel.[6]

Visit Kurdistan also cooperates with journalists, vloggers, and content creators from abroad to promote tourism in the region. Among them are journalists from Wanderlust Travel Magazine.[4]

In Spanish football

Visit Kurdistan has particularly sought partnerships in Spanish football. In October 2025, representatives of Visit Kurdistan and Getafe CF reportedly discussed potential cooperation agreements aimed at promoting Kurdish sport internationally and supporting the tourism and sports sectors in the Kurdistan Region. Reported proposals included the possible renaming of the club's home stadium, Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, to Visit Kurdistan Coliseum and the inclusion of Visit Kurdistan branding on the club's jerseys. The negotiations were later leaked publicly, though no agreement was finalized.[7]

In December 2025, during a match between FC Barcelona and CD Guadalajara, Visit Kurdistan displayed its name and the flag of Kurdistan on the advertising boards surrounding the pitch.[8]
