Vivek Atray is an Indian author, motivational speaker, columnist, mentor, independent advisor and a former IAS officer. Vivek is the author of two books titled “Move on Bunny![1] and “Dubey Ji Bounces Back[2]. He talks about emotional intelligence, leadership, public speaking, work-life balance and inspired living [3][4][5]. Vivek also writes a fortnightly column for the Hindustan Times called “Random Forays”. Having worked as an IAS officer for 25 years, he took a voluntary retirement to pursue his passion for speaking and writing as a full-time profession.

Early Life[edit]

Vivek spent most of his early childhood in Delhi, London and Chandigarh. His father, Jai Prakash Atray, worked as an officer in the Indian Police Services (IPS)[6] and his mother, Rama Atray, was an educationist.

Inspired by his father, he had his mind set upon working for the welfare of the Indian society. He joined the civil services after graduating from National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra[7] as an electronics engineer. Vivek was also an avid cricketer in his early days having played for the Indian national Under-19 cricket team.

Career[edit]

Vivek started his professional career in the civil services directly after graduating from college. During his tenure as an IAS officer, Vivek undertook a number of reforms in the areas of digital governance, investment promotion, education, tourism and sports management. He was directly involved with the development of the Chandigarh IT Park as Director IT[8].

Vivek also expanded the e-SAMPARK e-Governance project of Chandigarh[9]. When he was posted as D.C. Panchkula[10], he initiated projects such as Aadar Samman (respecting your elders) & Village Mentoring.

His passion for writing and public speaking got a major boost during his final years in the Indian government. His first book “Move on Bunny![11], published in 2012, was about the humorous escapades of a fictional character “Bunny Kapoor” as he takes on every challenge that life throws at him. His second book “Dubey Ji Bounces Back[12], released in 2014, was a critical success. He is also a the editor of a fortnightly column called "Random Forays"[13][14][15][16] published in the Hindustan Times.

Vivek has spoken at length at a number of events organized by NASSCOM[17], CII, PHDCCI, TIE, NCGG, LBSNAA, IIFT, ISB, corporates like INFOSYS & AXIS BANK and various educational institutions. He encourages the younger generation to adopt a cheerful, positive and multi-dimensional approach to their lives through his motivational talks.

A lot of Vivek’s motivational talks have been uploaded on YouTube amongst which are four Tedx talks. He spoke on topics like “Being Indian in a global era”[18], “Life and its real goals”[19], “The ingredients of being an all-rounder”[20] and "Living a simple but superb life"[21] in these Tedx talks.

Apart from the aforementioned, Vivek is also involved with a number of societies and organisations in and around Chandigarh. He has been organising the annual JP Atray Cricket Tournament[22] since 1992. Vivek is one of the founding members of Vibrant Networking Forum, Chandigarh Literati Society[23] and is the co-convenor for INTACH, Chandigarh.
