Volleybox
Volleybox – a website that serves as a volleyball database created by the online community, containing information about players.[1], clubs[2], leagues[3], match results[4], tournaments[5], and other aspects related to the sport. The platform allows users to co-create content by adding data and news, and it is the largest open project gathering knowledge about global volleyball[6].
History
The platform was founded in 2007 by Krzysztof Galanek in Sosnowiec under the name Volleyball-Movies[7], as a website for sharing and cataloging volleyball-related videos[8].
Over the years, the project evolved into a comprehensive database aimed at both fans and professionals. In 2019, along with the expansion of its features, the website was renamed Volleybox. At that time, new additions included player profiles[9] and coaching staff profiles[10], a club rating system[11], match statistics[12], a transfer section[13][14], a discussion forum[15], match prediction games[16], and a job market for volleyball players[17][18]. In 2021, the platform was translated into Polish[19], German[20], French[21], and Dutch[22]. A dark mode and MVP voting for matches were also introduced[23].
Project description
As of 2025, the platform had over 124,800 registered users[24], of which more than 30,600 were active or former professional volleyball players[25] and 6,035 were coaches[26]. Every user can contribute to the database by adding profiles of players[1], coaches[27], staff members, clubs, leagues, cups, and match results[4].
The platform also offers a match prediction section[16], an overview of upcoming games[12], and transfer news updates[13][14].
World ranking
Volleybox maintains its own ranking of clubs[28] and players[29], based on results achieved in official national and international competitions as well as individual awards. This ranking is updated dynamically and is used, among others, by fans[30] and sports journalists[31][32][33][34][35][36][37]
