WAF is the first private news agency in the Sultanate of Oman after the government of Oman allowed online media to be officially registered in December 2020 (https://mjla.gov.om/legislation/gazettes/details.aspx?Id=523&type=G).

As of January 2018, WAF was operating as a business news services on social media (https://twitter.com/WAF_om), and on May 2018 the official website was launched (https://wafoman.com/).

WAF is an independent news agency with a focus on Oman's Economy and related areas. The agency became been a key source of information and news for officials and executives as a commentary-free media outlet. Esecially for news and updates on sectors like: Energy (https://wafoman.com/category/energy-en/?lang=en), finance, SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises), and other key business areas.

WAF News Agency is the news arm of The Media Centre (TMC) https://tmc.om/, an socio-economic information provider.
