WOW - The Vegas Spectacular is a water-themed variety show at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show opened in October 2017 and was created by director Hanoch Rosènn. It runs approximately 90 minutes and combines acrobatics with water effects and multimedia technology.[1]
Venue
WOW performs at the Rio Showroom. The venue previously hosted Danny Gans from 1997 to 2000, when it was called the Copa Cabana Showroom.[2] Between November 2006 and April 2007, Prince used the space for his Per4ming Live 3121 residency. During that period it was known as Club 3121.[3][4][5]
The venue was renovated before WOW opened. Changes included adding a custom stage with a 1,000-square-foot water feature, LED video walls, and pool equipment.[1]
Production
More than 30 performers from several countries appear in the show.[1] Acts range from acrobatics and aerial work to juggling, contortion, and crossbow archery. The show follows a fisherman through scenes set in Venice, on pirate ships, aboard the Titanic, and in Atlantis. It uses 3D projections, holograms, and water walls.[2]
Silvia Silvia performs a crossbow act in which she shoots an apple off her own head. She was a semi-finalist on America's Got Talent Season 10 in 2015.[6][7] She has appeared on NBC California Live[8] and been profiled in Las Vegas Magazine.[9] Other cast members include comedian Alex Traisci and juggler Victor Ponce.[2]
The show uses over 400 lighting instruments. There are 240 costumes.[10] Performers who work in the water receive scuba training.[11]
History
Rosènn had directed similar variety shows internationally before bringing WOW to Las Vegas.[2] Preview performances started September 26, 2017. The show officially opened October 7, 2017.[1] Damian Costa, then Caesars Entertainment's vice president of Las Vegas entertainment operations, said it would be "unlike any production Las Vegas has experienced before."[1]
The show hit 1,000 performances in December 2019.[12] By August 2025, it had surpassed 3,000 performances. Over 2.5 million people have seen the show.[10] It runs Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets range from $39 to $169.[10]
Media coverage
Members of the WOW cast appeared in the Season 19 premiere of Hell's Kitchen, which aired on Fox in January 2021. The season was filmed in Las Vegas in spring 2019. Performers worked around host Gordon Ramsay and the contestants.[13]
Local Las Vegas stations have featured the show. KLAS-TV Las Vegas Now covered it in August 2018.[14] In 2023, cast members appeared on BYUtv's Random Acts in an episode called "Life's a Circus."[15]
Awards and reception
WOW has won several Best of Las Vegas awards. In 2024, it took Best Production Show, Best Family Friendly Show, and Best Acrobatic Show (Gold).[16] Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman declared a "WOW Day."[17]
Las Vegas Magazine reviews have mentioned the variety of acts and pricing compared to Strip shows. A December 2017 review called it "a mixture of many different elements" that creates a "theatrical water show adventure."[2] A February 2024 review singled out Silvia Silvia's crossbow act.[7]
Other shows
Rosènn has directed other Las Vegas productions. Extravaganza opened at Bally's Las Vegas in 2020. Rouge: The Sexiest Show in Vegas opened at the STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower in 2022.[18]
