From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The main entrance to Walhalla.

Walhalla is a restaurant located at the fortification walls on the island of Kustaanmiekka, the southernmost island of the Suomenlinna islands in Helsinki, Finland, founded in 1952. The restaurant was named after the Valhallaorden society which was active in Viapori in the 1780s. Nowadays Walhalla consists of three restaurants, including the evening restaurant Walhalla Gourmet, the pizzeria Nikolai and Aurinkoterassi & Bar. The courtyard of the restaurant is also used to host large events. Walhalla is open in summer starting from International Workers' Day, but also functions as a catering restaurant all year round.[1][2]

History[edit]

The restaurant was built in the Suomenlinna fortress from 1949 to 1951 for use at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki. The premises were designed by architect Aulis Blomstedt. The main hall of the restaurant was built in the caponier Delwig, and part of caponier Boije serves as the cabinet. Boije also hosts the restaurant's landscape view terrace.[2]
