Walker Montgomery
Walker Montgomery (born February 13, 1999) is an American country music singer and songwriter from Nicholasville, Kentucky. He is the son of country music artist John Michael Montgomery and the nephew of Eddie Montgomery of the duo Montgomery Gentry, the brother-in-law of country singer Travis Denning, and the cousin of country artist Dillon Carmichael. Raised in a prominent musical family, Montgomery has forged his own career in country music, blending traditional and modern influences.
Early Life and Family Background
Walker Montgomery was born on February 13, 1999, in Nicholasville, Kentucky. He grew up away from the public eye, allowing him to develop a deep appreciation for country music's roots. His father, John Michael Montgomery, achieved fame in the 1990s with hits like "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That," while his uncle, Eddie Montgomery, is known for his role in the duo Montgomery Gentry. Despite his family's prominence in the industry, Montgomery was determined to establish his own identity as an artist.
Career
After graduating from high school, Montgomery enrolled at the University of Kentucky in Lexington,[1] where he studied Integrated Strategic Communications. He attended for one semester before deciding to pause his education to focus on his burgeoning music career.
Montgomery moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music, signing with Play It Again Entertainment in 2019.[2] He has worked with The Peach Pickers—Dallas Davidson, Ben Hayslip, and Rhett Akins—who have collectively penned numerous No. 1 hits. His debut single, "Simple Town," showcases his classic country style and has garnered over 5 million streams on Spotify. Other notable tracks include "She Don't Know," "Like My Daddy Done It," and "Saving For A Rainy Night," each reflecting his blend of traditional and modern country influences.
In December 2023, Montgomery achieved a significant milestone by making his Grand Ole Opry debut.[3] His father and uncle introduced him to the stage, marking a poignant moment in his career. He performed songs from his EP Work to Do, including the title track and "Tired of You," to a packed audience at the historic venue.
In September 2024, Walker Montgomery released a heartfelt rendition of his father John Michael Montgomery's 1993 hit, "I Love the Way You Love Me"[4] The original song, featured on John Michael Montgomery's debut album Life's a Dance, became his first No. 1 single and was named Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.
Walker described the song as his favorite of all time, noting its constant presence in their household and its reflection of his current life stage. He expressed hope that it would become listeners' favorite love song as well.[4]
The release quickly gained traction on social media, particularly on TikTok, where a video of Walker performing the song amassed over 8 million views within 24 hours. The overwhelming response led to the song's commercial release on streaming platforms.
John Michael Montgomery publicly praised his son's rendition, expressing pride and appreciation for Walker bringing new life to the classic song for a new generation of listeners.[5]
Montgomery's music continues to resonate with audiences, blending heartfelt lyrics with a rich baritone voice. His dedication to his craft and respect for country music traditions have solidified his place in the contemporary country music landscape.
Entry into the Texas Country Scene
Walker Montgomery's foray into the Texas country music scene marked a significant expansion of his musical reach beyond his Kentucky roots. In May 2024, he performed at the renowned Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, as part of the kickoff for the Million Dollar Music Fest weekend.[6] This performance, while not in Texas, introduced him to a broader audience that appreciates the honky-tonk and dancehall culture prevalent in Texas country music. milliondollarcowboybar.com
Building on this momentum, Montgomery continued to connect with the Texas country audience through collaborations and performances. Notably, he teamed up with Texas country artist Randy Rogers for the single "Never Again One More Time," a track that blends classic country storytelling with the signature sound of Texas honky-tonk music. The collaboration was well-received and further solidified Montgomery's presence in the Texas country scene.[7]
His engagement with the Texas country scene reflects a strategic effort to broaden his musical influence and connect with audiences who value the traditional sounds of country music.
Personal Life
In May 2025, Montgomery became engaged to Krista Slaubaugh,[8] one-half of the country music duo Tigirlily Gold. The proposal took place in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, marking a personal milestone for the artist.
