The Wallace Stegner Award for the Arts is a Canadian award, founded by author Sharon Butala.[1][2], made possible by a grant from the W. Garfield Weston Foundation and the Saskatchewan Arts Board and administered by The Eastend Arts Council[3] The award includes a stipend and a month's residency at The Wallace Stegner House in Eastend, Saskatchewan. The award was established in honor of American author Wallace Stegner (1909-1993)[4], a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and leading environmentalist. Wallace Stegner was a prolific writer of novels, short stories, and works of nonfiction. Stegner lived most of his life in the United States, but the genesis of his inspiration as a writer can be traced to southwest Saskatchewan[5]. In 1989 his boyhood home (built by his father in 1917)[6] in Eastend, Saskatchewan, was restored by Eastend Arts Council as a residence for visiting artists and writers.[7] Since then, it has hosted artists and writers from around the world.
