Walmart Online
Walmart Online was Walmart’s early internet-based retail initiatives that preceded the creation of Walmart.com as a standalone subsidiary.
According to Winner Sells All by Jason Del Rey, Walmart’s initial online commerce efforts were developed internally during the 1990s as part of the company’s information systems organization.[1][2][3] At the time, Robert Davis oversaw Walmart’s point-of-sale (POS)[4][5] and enterprise systems, which provided the foundation for these early online initiatives[6]. Del Rey notes that Walmart’s internal systems, including transaction processing, inventory control, and data integration, were key components supporting the company’s initial online retail experiments.
By 1997, Walmart Online was fully transactional and offered over 100,000 items for purchase online.[7][8]
