Overview[edit]

Walt Coulston is a diversified property professional with 20 years’ experience in the Australian real estate sector. Born and raised in the regional NSW town of Parkes, Walt saw first-hand the critical nexus between property and the delivery of essential community services. As a result, a major focus has been the delivery of critical community and digital infrastructure across all the major asset classes and markets throughout Australia, while earning a reputation for being at the forefront of Sustainability and ESG best-practice.

Career[edit]

Walt begun his career at JLL (Jones Lang la Salle) in 1999, after graduating from Western Sydney University with a bachelor’s degree in Property Economics. Quickly becoming one of the youngest Directors in Australia at JLL, Walt was responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of a portfolio of Industrial, Bulky Goods and Alternative Asset Classes, with major clients including Goodman, Walkers, ING and Lend Lease. While still in his 20’s, Walt later founded his own development and investment company, Coulston Group, primarily to develop a number of sites in regional NSW which his late father David had purchased and intended to develop himself, however sadly passed away at the age of only 49 in 1991. Coulston Group rapidly amassing a broad portfolio of development and income producing assets spanning the high density residential, retail, commercial, industrial and hospitality sectors.

After finalising Coulston Group’s projects, Walt established a further venture as a co-founder of CK Group, a true national diversified real estate Investment and development firm. Operating as the Managing Director, Walt was responsible for acquisitions, feasibility, financing and project delivery. CK Group focused primarily on the Alternative Asset classes of Healthcare and Early Education sectors, however also developed large mixed use Town Centres, Hotels and Digital Infrastructure assets. Combining activities from Coulston Group and CK Group, Walt delivered well over $1BN worth of projects, with major developments delivered in each major capital city in Australia.

Future Projects[edit]

Accelerating more sustainability practices in the digital infrastructure world is both the latest and largest challenge Walt is tackling via the creation of GreenSquareDC. GreenSquareDC is hyperscale Data Centre operator committed to helping solve the world’s toughest sustainability and decarbonisation challenges associated with digital infrastructure, energy and water consumption.  GreenSquareDC’s Data Centre, featuring its innovative “Five Pillars to Sustainability” design, is focused on helping its customers achieve enhanced business value with far greater ESG consciousness and transparency. Sustainability is, and will always be, at the core of what GreenSquareDC will do.

Poised to service an increasingly important global digital economy and with a delivery cost exceeding $1BN AUD, GreenSquareDC’s initial Data Centre, located in Perth, will be one of the largest data centres in Australia and by far the largest in Perth. When completed, total electrical capacity will be 96MW. The next largest Data Centre in Western Australia is 20MW. Further similar Data Centres will be delivered around Australia and then rolled out internationally. These will all represent true best-in-class reliability and sustainability outcomes - which have not been achieved at this scale to date in Australia or elsewhere internationally.
