Overview and Background[edit]

Walter ‘Flynn’ Hartwell White Jr. is the son of Skyler White and Walter White. He is portrayed by the actor RJ Mitte. He is 17 years old when the show begins, and is a student at J.P Wynne High School, where his father Walter used to work as a chemistry teacher. Furthermore he is the older brother of Holly White, who is born during the show.

Walter Jr. was born with cerebral palsy, which causes him to use crutches, and causes speech impairment.During the series, he is partially preffered to be called ‘Flynn’ as this seems cooler to him. Furthermore, his best friend in the series is Louis Corbett.

Walter Jr. makes his first appearance during the episode 1 of season 1, and makes his last appearance during the serie finale ‘Felina’. Walter Jr. has a rather difficult time during the series, having to face the family problems between Walter and Skyler, and losing contact to Walter. However, he is more of a side character, and doesn’t have an influential role in the series.

Personality[edit]

Besides the fact that he was born with cerebral palsy, Walter White Jr is an average teenager. He is kind and devoted, as shown in the 5th episode of season 1, when his friends ask him to casually approach an adult to buy them beer, and adult that reveals himself to be a police officer. But the personality trait that really defines Junior is his admiration for his father: throughout most of the show, he shows this feeling several times. When his father is diagnostic with cancer, he creates a donations website to support him, in which he qualifies his father as a “hero”. When his father leaves the house because of the divorce with his mother, he is lost and blames her, taking his father’s side. He seems also very loving with his little sister.

He may seem naïve, but this is because he is totally unaware of what his father is up to for the entire first 4 seasons. And even when he learns about the whole story, he still refuses to accept it and reprehends his mother for helping him laundering the money, but eventually Junior will feel only hatred for Walter and even tells him to die as final words.

Appearance and Influence on Walter White[edit]

RJ Mitte best known role as Walter “Flynn” White Jr. in the series “Breaking Bad” who started off as Walter and Skyler White’s son who appears on the first Episode as their 17 years old. Like the character in the show, Walter Jr. suffers from cerebral palsy. In the series, Flynn is always seen for using his crutches. Walter JR appeared in all 5 seasons. Walter Jr is Skyler and Walter Sr’s 17 years old son, who attends JP Wynne High School where his father used to work as a chemistry teacher, he is also the older brother of Holly White. At the start of the show, Walter Jr is relatively close to his parents. But as Walter Sr gets more involved in the drug trade the two grew distant and hostile. However, when Skyler and Walter were separated due to Walter’s deceptions, Jr initially takes his father’s side and turns on his mother. Jr is one of the main reasons why Walter White gets into the drug business because he wants to provide his family knowing that his lung cancer will kill him soon.

Season 1: It was evident that Walter Jr. was closer to his uncle Hank Schrader. Hank was the Special Assistant Agent of the Albuquerque Drug Enforcement Administration. Walter Jr. called Hank instead of his father when he got in trouble for purchasing alcohol under age. In this stage, Walter Jr tried pushing his father into Chemotherapy because of his lung cancer where he decides not to be treated.

Season 2: Walter White has disappeared for a couple of days. That is where Walter Jr gets angry and changes his name to “Flynn”, showing a small sign of rebellion. Flynn changes his attitude once his father agrees for the chemotherapy treatment, where Jr creates a website to raise money for his father’s treatment. Walter White then uses his son’s charity website to launder his money. SaveWalterWhite.com was the charity website Jr has created in order to raise funds for his father’s chemotherapy. Walter White took this to his advantage because charities are usually the least suspected.

Season 3: Skyler and Walter separate due to Walter’s deceptions. Jr takes his father’s side and blames his mother for the divorce.

Season 4: Walter White moves back home to be with his family where he withdraws his anger and past feelings and seemed happy to be back home. When Walter Jr’s birthday was up, Walter missed it because he was beaten up by Jesse. Walter Jr visits his father’s apartment where he sees his father bruised and hurt. Walter Jr stays overnight to keep an eye on his father, who mistakenly calls his son “Jesse”. Walter Jr remains unaware of his father’s business and maintains his role in the family.

Season 5: After things were getting out of hand and lots of murdering happened. Skyler sends Walter Jr and Holly to stay with the Schrader’s after Skyler attempted to commit suicide in the swimming pool and failed. Meanwhile Walter Jr is trying to find out what is happening. Towards the end of the season, Jr and Holly return home after Walt says he is out of the meth business. Skyler is later forced by her sister to confess their criminal activities (Skyler and Walt) to Walter Jr. Walter becomes horrified and refuses to believe what he has been told. When they reach home, Walt has a truck ready to leave, Walt wants to leave with his family. Skyler asks her husband repeatedly about Hank, where Walt later admits that he is dead. The family refuses to leave with Walt. Walter Jr’s parents both get into a fight where he sides with his mother and try to kick Walt out of their house. Later through the end, Walter, who calls his son who reverted back to “Flynn”, wanted to send money to his family. However, Flynn is still angry and yells on the phone “You killed uncle Hanks” and refuses.
